How Does Nozzle Pressure Affect Stream Velocity?

What is Nozzle Flow Pressure?

Nozzle flow pressure is the discharge pressure of a nozzle at a given flow rate. It is an indication of the velocity flow of your fire stream in feet per second. You can use the hydraulic formula for velocity flow for any smooth bore, fixed, selectable, or automatic firefighting nozzle.

(ft/s) = 12.14 * √NP

How does Nozzle Pressure Affect Velocity of a Fire Stream?

When a nozzle’s flow pressure changes, the stream exiting the nozzle travels faster or slower. A nozzle needs enough velocity flow to fight against gravity as it travels toward the fire. If it does not have enough velocity, it may not reach far enough for your needs.
